The Greene County Career and Technology Center Food Truck has been a phenomenal addition to the educational experience for Greene County students. Since its grand opening in April, the food truck has been a part of numerous county events such as Rain Day, the Jack Town Fair and the Greene County Fair. In addition to these events, the truck has supported private business events as well as numerous school events including one fundraiser.
As an educational tool, the truck provides a one of kind educational experience. Students are required to interact with customers, take orders, communicate those orders to the rest of the food truck staff, and do a host of other tasks that our students never had access to in the past. Many of our students referred to the experience as “extremely fun but intense”.
The food truck learning experience will continue to grow in the years to come. We have already considered new applications for the truck as well as using the truck to train adults in the community.
In addition to the educational experiences provided by the truck, it has opened the eyes of local students to opportunities such as operating their own food truck or even building food trucks in the future. These opportunities are not only accessible for culinary arts students, but several programs at the CTC have benefited from the food truck including the Auto Collision, Welding, and Building Construction Occupation programs.
The Greene County Career and Technology Center Food Truck has created a buzz in community and educational system. It has made the community more aware of what we do and what we provide for our students. We have seen an increase in participation of Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC) members in our culinary arts program, and numerous members of the OAC have even came out to volunteer to work on the truck with our students. The truck has been a wonderful addition to our school, our community, and our county. We cannot thank the Community Foundation and the local business enough for making this experience a reality.
