The Lloyd “Tag” Ross Memorial Scholarship was established at CFGC by his daughters, Chawney Kaiser and Tiffany Simms. Tag, as he was known by his family and friends, was a 1984 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School, where he excelled as a baseball player.
Upon graduating HS, Tag entered the workforce and started working for Golden Triangle as a laborer. He worked for Golden Triangle until early 2024. Tag played slow pitch softball for many years, and this is when the bug bit him to get into coaching. Once Chawney and Tiffany were old enough to play softball, he took on the position of ‘coach’ where he was able to continue his passion for sports. For over 10 years, he coached softball players in Greene County, and was able to impact the lives of the girls he coached both on and off the softball field.
Tag loved sports and was adamant about what a young person could learn through participating in a team sport. It is with this in mind, knowing that Dad would have been excited that young ladies who participated in softball and were planning to pursue a post-secondary degree/certificate at a trade, technical, or business school, in addition to a two- or four-year college/university, could continue their educational dreams.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Greene County graduating high school student who participated in varsity softball. The recipient will be selected by the CFGC scholarship selection committee. Since this scholarship will be endowed in the future, it will live into perpetuity. The Community Foundation of Greene County will manage and invest the funds in its restricted endowment pool and distribute $1,000 annually.
